We’re working on this new column called “Story Doctors.” I asked about it a couple weeks ago. Folks sent us their work, and we’ve got a draft all ready to go. In case you forgot, it’s going to be where Steve Chang & Autumn Watts show you how editors think as they edit a piece from our audience. But here’s the problem, we really don’t like the name “Story Doctors.” And we can’t come up with a better one. Here is where we left it:
But, hmm, help? Any ideas? We’re excited for this and don’t want it to fall flat cause folks see some silly name and decide not to open it. We’re cooked. So comment below. Heck, if we use your title, we’ll comp you a full year of Sub Club plus send you $50.
So, yeah, try to think of something this week. Comment your idea below. No limit on the number. Once we find the one that makes us go “Ohh, That’s it!” then we’ll have our winner.
As for what we published this week? Here it goes:
And we’ve got more Fuck it, Submit! Parties coming:
October 22nd at 4:00 PM EST » REGISTER HERE
October 28th at 9:00 AM EST » REGISTER HERE
Come with any questions you have about submitting. I’m happy to answer anything I can. These are super casual. Time to submit your work with a bit of support.
As for our poll last week on submissions, we had a clear winner with free and open submissions but lower pay. So we’ll start there when we open.
Oh and we reached the Top 10 Substacks in Literature! (#10 specifically but we’re climbers). We’re aiming for top 5 next. If you like us and want to help us get there, consider becoming a paid subscriber.
Or even sharing us around helps loads.
That’s all for this week! I’ll be setting this to autopost cause tomorrow morning my local library has a sale where you can fill a tote bag for 20 bucks! So, yeah, I’ll be there. Surprise me with some good column names for when I get back.

In film and television, the place where editing occurs is called the edit(ing) bay, so you could just call it that - The Edit Bay
