Where to pitch this week (09.27.24)
Editor requests from Cosmopolitan, Hearst Magazines, Uproxx, and a chance to write about why it was great to have a toxic mom.
Hello and happy Friday!
This week’s been a little busier for pitches, which is fun. Also, next week is October! The exclamation point is for my ongoing surprise at this fact. So if you have any autumnal pitches, get them out now.
What editors are looking for
Family Issues
In the pitching world, it’s the holiday season and you know what that means: family problems!
Of course, not all families have problems around the holidays. But the fact that people are getting together, doing difficult travel, and talking to relatives in an election year means that tensions will be high. Which is great news for you as a writer!
If you write about stress, parent/child relationships, romantic relationships, boundaries, money, personal finance, or family, you have a wealth of ideas to choose from right now. Things like “setting boundaries with parents on gifts,” “what to do if you don’t want to stay at your mom’s house,” “cheap gifts that don’t feel cheap,” “holiday events for the whole family in [your location],” and “first holiday with a new spouse after a divorce” could all be starts of stories that speak to what readers are worrying about right now.
Obviously, you don’t have to use any of these (though you can if you want!). But hopefully, that spurs your imagination!
