Where to Submit This Week (12.2.24) - For real this time.
Oops. Sorry! a previous version of this just went out that was an incomplete draft. Ah! Technology. It didn’t have theme calls or contests or always open mags. So, we’ve edited it here and after a lot of hems and haws we figured it’d be best to shoot off another email so you’re not working with bad info from that draft.
Hey! So, Writer’s Digest opened up their nominations for 101 Best Websites for writers. If you have a minute and are liking what we do here, you can nominate us for free through this form. Thank you!
Welcome to Sub Club’s Where to Submit This Week! Our weekly report of up-to-date submission opportunities for writers.
This week, we’ve got:
25 Recently Opened Submission Calls
5 Last Chance to Submit
12 Theme Calls To Inspire You!
5 Lit mags that are always open for submissions
1 Vetted writing contest closing this week
We’re doing a bit of a switcheroo and killing our weekly digest. Kinda seems like it could just be an email, you know? So we’re adding in our “what we published” here and will announce whatever else in this intro from now on. So! What did we publish last week? Well, here it you go:
Submissions Help Line
Q: What if your piece was published with structural changes (paragraphs, section breaks) that the editor didn’t run by you, and you are not happy with them? If you reach out and don’t receive a reply, what’s next? Thank you.
A: Oof, unfortunately the next step is to tell all of your writing friends not to publish with that magazine anymore. There are only so many steps you can take in some situations before it’s a “well fuck” situation. If an editor hasn’t even hit you back to explain why those changes were made, then yeah. That’s the time to cross them off your list and let anyone who asks know what happened. Sometimes structural changes need to be made but those are usually communicated in advance, or at least explained afterward. I would give them a month or so to reply though. A lot of mags are short staffed and things can get lost. After a couple weeks follow up and see.
Have a question about submitting? Ask us, and we’ll answer it in next week’s Where To Submit This Week. Visit our submission helpline. And if you are a paid subscriber you’re welcome to our chat here on Sub Club where you can ask questions and chat with us and others about submitting.
