Universities are into books — wild, right! Well, a lot of them have affiliated small presses housed right on campus with a steady rotating crew of eager students to help out along with experienced directors and editors. University Presses usually tend to publish mainly academic stuff but most will also consider general nonfiction plus some poetry and fiction. Few publish hybrid or experimental stuff. These places are usually decades-old publications with pretty traditional styles. The nine I’ve listed below are some of the best University-affiliated presses — their titles not only win Pulitzers and National Book Awards but are also, like, bought and read by people (which I think is personally more important).
