9 Literary Agents Looking for Debut Authors
The keys to the castle are people-shaped. Specifically? These people.
Hunting for agents seeking your kind of writing can be a bullshit rollercoaster. Also, it takes a lot of time. Plus, money, energy, heartbreak, imposter syndrome, and often, the lack of direction can be paralyzing. Let’s try to make that a little better, shall we?
Every other week or so, we’ll be sharing lists of literary agents open to submission queries with some details about what they’re seeking, their favorite authors (if that information’s available), authors they have recently represented, and the submission process.
Full disclosure, I first queried agents when I was 17 (and never again). That was 11 years ago. I got a few requests for more pages. One person was super interested in my work. If I hadn’t run away from home, they might have even taken me on. Oh well, boohoo. Point being: this will be an opportunity for me as much as you to learn more about the lit agent and querying scene today. If there is anything you think we should add to these lists, please don’t hesitate to drop a comment.
I’ll also be taking notes on a range of things, stuff like diversity and notoriety in the agenting world and the dynamics of the author-agent relationship, plus tips from agents to land your manuscript, what kind of manuscripts are getting picked up, etc. I’ll be sharing all of these over the course of these lists. Alright, then, buckle in: here are 9 literary agents looking for debut authors!
