So, we all love submitting to literary magazines around here, right? Which means that we must be doing some literary writing. Right…? But also, what the hell does “literary” even really mean anymore? You could say it’s the opposite of genre fiction (ghosts, ghouls, vampires, and all that), but more and more the most popular genre is hybrid (or as we call it affectionately at Chill Subs: Wtf is genre anyway!)
Below, I’ve got nine indie presses accepting unsolicited submissions of literary fiction. This means, you don’t need agent. But also, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you do need a super “literary” book. Look through the kind of stuff these presses published. You’ll be surprised at the diverse and experimental titles these wonderful presses champion!
