As a kid, my mother worked as a waitress. When she had a good night, raking in a load of tips, she did The Money Dance. It wasn’t so much a dance as her spinning in circles, waving the money around, shouting, “I’m in the moneeey!” over and over and over.
This is how I feel when I get paid for my work. Though it is a bit less fun waving my phone in the air because all I have to show for it is a few digital zeroes that went beep-boop into my back account (money isn’t real! capitalism is a lie! ahhh!)
But it’s still great. It feels great. Especially when it is a lot of money. To me, $100 is a lot of money for something my brain magically came up with. So I went into our database and found all magazines paying $100+ for fiction. I was pleasantly surprised to see that more than half of these magazines don’t charge a submission fee. That’s pretty fucking awesome in my opinion and someone should buy those editors a round of…whatever editors drink. Blood of the anxious? Rejection tears? (Kidding).
Not just $100 either. Some of these magazines pay $200, $300, and even $1000+. Wild. I also included the fee information, descriptions, and response times for each of these magazines. If you click any of the names, you’ll be redirected to their guidelines. Of course, not all of them are open right now, but most list their reading periods so you can update your submission schedules.
In coming weeks, I’ll make a list like this for poetry and another for nonfiction.
This is one of our paid subscriber lists this month. Our paid subscriptions are what give us the ability to gather all of this information and maintain our database. If you have the means, you can upgrade here.
Of course, we are always happy to comp those in need, just let us know. Our next free list will be Monday (October 2nd).
