I love it when I meet folks who are as into lit mags as me. It’s rare. In my day-to-day, most people I know have absolutely no clue what a lit mag is. When I explain it, they’re like, “Oh, so like The New Yorker?”
Sure. Just like that. But this newsletter has introduced me to so many passionate people. Like Doug. Doug Jacquier is the editor of Witcraft, an Australian humor magazine.
He is one of those who you might see in the comments here and there, catching my occasional fuck-ups.
Recently, he emailed me about how nobody keeps a good record of Australian Lit Mags. He’s not wrong. Indie lit has a poor track record of highlighting most places beyond America and the U.K. It’s something I’m working on and why I’ve started making lists like:
And I’m working on ones for Asia, Africa, and South America. But Doug went above and beyond by sending me a spreadsheet of 59 Australian Lit Mags where he found not only their names and links, but included genres, notes, payment info, and fee information. It’s so good; I’m going to do something a bit different today. I am going to link the spreadsheet directly so you can easily save them and add them to your submission schedule. If you want to thank Doug for putting this together, consider submitting to Witcraft or head on over there and buy him a coffee.
Here is a link where you can view, copy, or download Doug’s spreadsheet.
Go to “File” and click “Make a Copy.”
I am considering opening up Sub Club for submissions of lists like this. What do you think? Would that be something folks would be interested in? Let me know in the comments. Also, how do you feel about the spreadsheet format? I’ve never tried this before, but I work a lot with spreadsheets, and I’m always looking for better ways to improve this service. Let me know!
We also have a new month-long workshop starting March 5th over at Write or Die 101 about how to launch and grow a newsletter (with a focus on Substack). Learn more here:
Wow thanks so much for this! I've got poems in a few Australian litmags already and they're some of the most amazing I'm in! This is Wonderful to have and use! Bobby Parrott
