22 Lit Mags for The Tortured Poets Department
Oh, yes we did. No one is above Taylor Swift *sigh*
Say what you will about the idea of tortured poets (and a lot of you have willed and said a whole lot that I will not link to here, because we all need a break from pop culture debates) — poetry is definitely having a moment thanks to Taylor Swift’s new album “The Tortured Poets Department.” Whether it’s hot takes on commas or the oft-believed but inherently problematic notion of assuming an artist to be “tortured” simply because they create art which in turns glamorizes trauma and pushes many young people into further despair — the singer’s — erm Chairman’s — got everyone talking.
So at Sub Club, we’ll do what we know best. Make a list to go with all the chatter and hopefully create something productive. Plus, what’s more torturous than submitting to lit mags. I mean, anyone can have a heartbreak or two and write a sad song about it but can you send your poem to 100 places and then read “Unfortunately…thank you” countless times and then continue to write poetry!? Who the hell is this crazy. We are. All of you are.
Alright, let’s get lit-magging. Here are 22 magazines with all the shades of the various Tortured Poets vibes. Submit away! (Oh and also, submit happy, because, in all seriousness, this shit should be fun).
