Where to Pitch This Week (1.17.25) | Editor requests from Empire Magazine, The Daily Mirror, Business Insider, and more. Plus paid opps in vinyl, long Covid, and film/tv.
Hello, happy Friday, and welcome to Where to Pitch This Week!
Sorry to be late. I’m totally safe in LA, but my power keeps popping in and out. Not enough to ruin the food in my fridge, but enough to make my internet-based job a little tricky.
Luckily, there are all kinds of fun pitches today!
What Editors Are Looking For
Connection to Film Awards
The BAFTA Awards nominees just came out, the Golden Globes happened, and the Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23. That means it’s a good time to write about movies!
That doesn’t mean you need to write about the awards or the films themselves. But the Oscar-ish movies open up a new pop culture conversation.
If you have a personal essay about working as a dancer in a club, you could potentially relate that story to Anora and its depiction of dancing. If you’ve had a struggle with faith or have a story connected to the Catholic Church, that could be connected to Conclave.
Or, if you’ve wanted to write about an older film or TV show, as long as it features an actor/director/writer who’s in the Oscar conversation, it’s timely again! So break out all your G.I. Jane stories because all things Demi Moore are back in the conversation.
Even if film isn’t your usual thing, BAFTA and Oscar nominations can be a good prompt for pitching possibilities.
