Hello and happy Friday!

Over here in Los Angeles, the city has scheduled every major event for this weekend. Which means I’ll be hiding away in my house to avoid spending 400 hours in traffic.

Hopefully, your traffic will be clear and you can enjoy a wide range of spooky activities!

What Editors Are Looking For

Happy New Year

As the holidays get closer, people pitch a lot of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah stories. But a lot of writers sleep on New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day.

Editors need lots of New Year’s stories. At least the first two weeks of January are filled with New Year spirit and they need to give readers some winter inspiration.

That doesn’t mean you need to pitch articles about resolution cliches. But if you have a new take on New Year’s Resolutions, tips to get through January and February (dark, dull times of the year), or unexpected things to do on New Year’s Eve, many editors would love to hear from you.

Now is a great time to pitch New Year and 2025-themed pitches.

Or if you just can’t get enough of 2024, entertainment verticals are starting to gather their Best Of lists. Some of these—Best Films of 2024, Best TV of 2024, etc—will be handled by their entertainment staff writers. But if you have a Best Of list that’s a little off the beaten track, pitch it starting now through late November.
