This week from our Sub Club Submissions Help Line:
Q: More than a month ago I told you that a story I submitted to an English language literary magazine called The Mantelpiece, based in Iceland, had accepted a story of mine for publication in their June issue. I was asked to send an invoice for 140 euros, which I did. The story, Midsummer Revelry, was published on ist June. Despite two reminders, however, I never received any payment, explanation or apology. Your advice was to send a Final Notice, which I did, and if that was still ignored I should get back to you. Once again, I have received no reply. What is more, the June issue with my story has still been available on their website despite the fact that I have pointed out it is a gross infringement of my copyright.
Ben: We have pulled this mag from our database over at Chill Subs and emailed the editor to learn more. In the meantime, please also reach out to Victoria Stauss at Writer Beware.
Have a question about submitting? Ask us, and we’ll answer it in next week’s Where To Submit This Week. Visit our submission helpline. And if you are a paid subscriber you’re welcome to our chat here on Sub Club where you can ask questions and chat with us and others about submitting.
